Boykin, Doctson questionable for No. 11 TCU
The Horned Frogs will be without top wide receiver Josh Doctson for the remainder of the regular season.
Doctson got hurt November 7 when an Oklahoma State defender fell on his left arm after Doctson planted his hand on the turf after making a catch. But after visiting a specialist for his injury, the determination was made to hold him out of the Horned Frogs’ remaining games Saturday night at Oklahoma and next week against Baylor. He is two receptions away from the school’s receiving record. The next week against Kansas, he attempted to play but had only one catch.
If Doctson is unable to return for the team’s bowl game, which according to the latest bowl projections will be against USC in the Valero Alamo Bowl on January 2 in San Antonio, Texas, this ends his career as a TCU Horned Frog.
Here is what Doctson tweeted shortly after Patterson’s announcement. Quarterback Trevone Boykin was listed as questionable for the Sooners as he recovers from a sprained ankle.
Patterson said Tuesday that redshirt freshman Foster Sawyer could be the likely starter for the 11th-ranked Frogs if Boykin doesn’t play.
A dozen days ago, the TCU Horned Frogs were unbeaten, ranked eighth in the College Football Playoff rankings and trying to make a case for why they belong in the coveted final four.
“What’s helped TCU the most is we’ve started to make a name for ourselves”, said Patterson, whose team has beaten Oklahoma, Oklahoma State and Ole Miss during that span.
