Pepsi Debuts Smartphone Market by Launching P1 & P1s smartphones
The Pepsi Phone P1s has launched on JD Finance, and so far it’s raised ¥582,748 ($91,315 USD) in the one day that it’s been on the crowdfunding service.
Remember the Pepsi phone we were talking about a few weeks ago? It has a very affordable price tag and decent enough specs for the money, and of course it bears Pepsi branding.
The Pepsi Phone P1 /P1s is a mid-range smartphone and it features the Pepsi logo on the reverse as well as Pepsi style wallpaper. Early backers of the device only needed to pay CNY 499, (around $78, £51 or Rs. 5,165) but this is now sold out. Nevertheless you can still order the Pepsi phone at 699 Yuan (Rs 7,250 approx.) which is limited to first 1000 users. As there are 14 days left to go in the funding process, the phone is likely to meet its target and go into production.
The Pepsi Smartphone will come with a 5.5 inch display with a Full HD resolution of 1920 by 1080 pixels, the display also featured 2.5D glass and will come with an octa core processor.
Pepsi themselves will not oversee the manufacturing of the devices, instead licensed it’s brand name to Shenzhen Scooby Communication Equipment, who will do the leg work.
When it comes to connectivity features, the phablet offers support for all the usual standards such as Wi-Fi 802.11b/g/n/, Bluetooth 4.0, GPS, and 4G LTE/3G networks. Either way you can replace the second SIM card with a microSD. Last month there is also a dedicated page with the title “Pepsi Phone” on Weibo which was later removed.
Incidentally Fone Arena points to the regular version of the phone being called the Pepsi Phone P1 while the variant with FDD-LTE support for China Unicom is dubbed the P1s.
Furthermore, the smartphone boasts a 13 MP main camera, a 5 MP front facing unit; it relies on a 3,000 mAh battery and runs Android 5.1 out of the box. The device is now available in Blue, Gold and Silver, and will start shipping in January. On the imaging front, the Pepsi P1s sports a 13-Megapixel primary sensor and a 5-Megapixel secondary sensor.
