Jurgen Klopp Delivers Positive News On Mamadou Sakho
Liverpool’s only defeat in seven games under the German came against Crystal Palace earlier this month after Sakho was withdrawn before half-time with a knee injury that also ruled him out of France’s recent friendly internationals against Germany and England.
Jamie Carragher says that Dejan Lovren is running out of chances to prove that he is good enough for Liverpool.
Lovren kept Sakho out of the team at the beginning of the season under Klopp’s predecessor Brendan Rodgers, starting alongside Martin Skrtel in the first three games of the campaign, in which Liverpool kept consecutive clean sheets.
“Last year I had a tough year. I didn’t do pre-season with the team and everything was such a rush”, he added.
Lovren is likely to start in Saturday’s late kickoff against Manchester City at the Etihad Stadium. “We played in Rubin Kazan together and were feeling really good”, Lovren was quoted as saying on Liverpool FC’s official website.
Lovren insisted that he is aware of the lofty expectations, saying he now knows a “little bit more” both about the club and its history and the fans’ feeling towards him – saying the pre-season outside of the United Kingdom opened his eyes as to what a “great” and “big” club it is.
‘But you never know in football… injuries can happen today or tomorrow. “Now my thing is to be here for as long as possible and to win something with the club”. “So you need to be prepared”, mused the 26-year old, waxing philosophical before assuring the Reds faithful that he wasn’t resting on his laurels during his time on the sidelines.
“But Sakho will be a big blow for the manager because there haven’t been too many players who have been playing out of their skin but Sakho has certainly been one of the better ones”.
