Alpha Romeo Guilia Set For US Debut in Mid
The big show cars like Ferrari, Lamborghini, Maserati, Porsche, Alfa Romeo and the latest SL and AMG models from Mercedes-Benz – they are all here for you to see. Wrapped in leather and Alcantara, and highlighted by real carbon fiber, aluminum and accent stitching, the Giulia Quadrifoglio features a bespoke look that you’d normally expect in a supercar.
Brian Leon Patience is a powerful virtue, and it seems that Alfa Romeo has been testing ours. It’s a refreshing design. I’d rather have good-looking and odd than ergonomic but boring. At least you’ll never get bored of the Alfa’s interior.
It was all about the top of the range Quadrifoglio model in the past, but now Alfa Romeo is focusing their attention on the lower spec models of the Alfa Romeo Giulia. Reid Bigland, Alfa Romeo’s US head, said 0-to-60 miles per hour takes 3.8 seconds and the vehicle tops out at 191 miles per hour. There’s a few clever lightweight bits underneath its skin. Power will be sent to the rear set of wheel though there will also be optional all-wheel version as well. Brakes will be from Brembo and will be four-pistons all the way around on cast-iron rotors. To keep the car’s weight down, the Giulia’s driveshaft, hood and roof are made from carbon fibre.
The Quadrifoglio will start around $70,000 and go into production in the next six months. Well, Alfa Romeo has confirmed that the base Giulia in the USA will come with a turbocharged 2.0-liter four-cylinder engine delivering 276 hp.
The list kicks off with an entry-level 110kW 2.2-litre JTDM diesel-engined model, matched to a choice of manual or automatic transmissions and a rear-wheel drive layout.
The new Giulia might not come with the refinement, ergonomics or reliability that BMW is known for. But it will bring an Italian flare and much needed excitement to the segment when it debuts. This is an Italian sport-luxury sedan, with the more important of the aspects labeled first.
