Oprah Winfrey reveals reason she hasn’t married Stedman Graham

However, the two never walked down the aisle. “I could tell you they were going to be girls”, Rhimes told Oprah Winfrey in Sunday’s episode of “SuperSoul Sunday”.

Both love the company of men.

But it’s not lost on Rhimes that saying “yes” is sometimes what gets people in trouble when they’re anxious to please others.

Rhimes, who is a mother of three, said it’s important for a woman at a certain period in her life to make the declaration: “I don’t want to get married”. “But if you’re a woman in your thirties or forties, that’s a big deal”.

“I was supposed to do a book at the same time… and the wedding and the book were happening around the same time. There’s a huge amount of pressure”.

As a mom to three daughters, Rhimes always knew she wanted to become a parent.

Rhimes expressed admiration for those who are able to manage marriage and personal pursuits but maintained that marriage was not on her personal list of accomplishments.

“People think, ‘Oh, you must have this really thrilling life, ‘ [but] I literally went to work and came back”, Rhimes said. Through the show, I have learned more about what goes on in Washington D.C. than I had in any government class I have ever taken. Fortunately, she was finally forced on Thanksgiving Day 2013 to face her agoraphobia when her sister Delorse staged an intervention, asserting “You never say “yes” to anything”. Sure, in high school I learned checks and balances and whatnot, but I never understood the gravity of them in the scheme of politics. I never played bride. “And then just first breaking past that initial barrier she had for herself to then have the year of yes and the life of yes, was the most profound and interesting thing to me”. “Part of loving writing is that I get to live in my imagination …”

On dating: “I love having boyfriends. The moment he asked me to marry him [in 1993], I was like, ‘Now I actually have to get married?'”

“What I realised is, I don’t want to be married”. “Christina Yang is definitely one of my best friends and ride-or-dies, even though she’s not real”, Rhimes laughed.

Graham proposed more than 20 years ago.

The Scandal creator may not be been keen on marriage but “loves” being in relationships.

But she revealed she did accept his proposal and they planned the wedding for the year 1993, around the same time she was supposed to do a book. “We were on our way from the book party and Stedman said he did not want to have his wedding disturbed by all these people asking me about the book (which I ended up not doing)”, Oprah shared.

The moratorium on marriage plans helped Oprah have an epiphany.

I am not fully caught up on Rhimes’ latest hit, “How to Get Away with Murder”, but I’m sure that my knowledge of the criminal-justice system would increase significantly if I added it to my Netflix queue.

“What I realized is, I don’t want to be married”, Oprah says. “I couldn’t do it”.
