Justice League Dark Director Shortlist Revealed?
This news comes hot on the heels of several casting rumors that arrived this week, pointing to actors like Colin Farrell and Ben Mendelsohn, among others, being considered for roles. Their most recognisable works err on the side of cult favorites, which bodes well should either party sign on to direct. Justice League Dark revolves around the more sinister, supernatural cases that the regular Justice League are frankly too lame to take on. Given the DC Extended Universe is aiming for a PG-13 rating on all its releases, its doubtful will see any shocking gore or numerous obscenities.
DC’s “Justice League Dark” movie has a new wishlist of potential directors, following the departure of Guillermo Del Toro earlier this year. The team, made up of John Constantine, Swamp Thing, Deadman, Zatanna, Etrigan the Demon, and Madame Xanadu, battle otherworldly threats Superman and Batman don’t even know exist. Moreover, the report suggests that the studio wants a hispanic or black actress for Zatanna and a comedic type for Deadman.
“Justice League Dark” reportedly will start filming in 2016, with Oscar victor Scott Rudin on board as a producer. The character was previously played by Keanu Reeves in the 2005 film Constantine, and more recently by Matt Ryan in both the short-lived TV show of the same name and on The CW’s currently-airing Arrow. When transferring his spirit to his creations, the monstrous Un-Men, failed, he eyed Swamp Thing as a suitable host, which kicked off their feud over the decades. Would Mendelsohn make a good Anton Arcane?
In the comics, Arcane was a scientist obsessed with finding the secret to immortality.
Right now these casting rumors, if true, are just a wish list but it’s still an indication that the studio is moving forward with this exciting project.
As yet, Justice League Dark has not been officially announced by Warner Bros., but it’s said that the studio is keen to go into production in 2016. If anything, it will be akin to what Marvel is doing with Doctor odd.
