Syrian refugee who went missing – FOUND
Seven of them live in Kenner, six in New Orleans and one in Baton Rouge.
Monday, Governor Bobby Jindal issued an executive order preventing the resettlement of Syrian refugees into Louisiana.
Communications Coordinator Carol Spruell said the organization received a call around 4:30 p.m. Tuesday where a person made gun threats.
As Catholic Charities continues to work with those less fortunate, the organization says it has helped refugees since the Vietnam War.
Jindal, who frequently talks about his Catholic faith, has not commented on the threats against the charity. He says they take threats very seriously in Louisiana and are investigating the incident.
“I think youve got to be proactive on that because people need to know you dont tolerate that and youre going to look into it”.
However, Sen. David Vitter (R-LA), who has been on top of the issue ever since, said he spoke with the Department of Homeland Security today and they confirmed to him that they do not, in fact, know where the refugee is.
Television station WBRZ reports that a Syrian refugee who was resettled there by Catholic Charities has gone missing.
The charity’s executive director said the faith-based aid organization was not responsible for tracking the man – which he said government authorities have been doing.
The process for resettlement can take between two and 10 years, as immigrants undergo interviews and provide paperwork to identify potential health and security threats before they arrive in the U.S.
He added that village officials “share in Catholic Charities’ compassion toward these individuals, and that’s why we are promoting a charity drive to send money to Syrian refugees overseas”.
Amityville Mayor James Wandell also has expressed opposition to resettling Syrian refugees in the area.
That’s a far cry from the “tens of thousands” of refugees that conservative websites have warned would be resettled in Louisiana. Not really, no. With Vitter down anywhere from 10 to 20 points, depending on the poll, and just a few days before the runoff, the state GOP found the ideal bogeyman via the Paris attacks last Friday and the specter of Syrian refugees flooding our cities and setting up terror cells to pollute our milk and honey.
