India censors James Bond’s kisses in Spectre
Adding to its publicity is the news that the Indian Censor Board has chopped a kissing scene between Daniel Craig and Monica Bellucci. Like many locations used, this new offering by Sam Mendes seems misplaced between Bond’s womanizer reputation and passion for action. A twitter client Anurag Verma composed, “Blue pencil board to cut kissing scenes?”
However, the film is being heavily censored and the Indian Film Certification Board objected to numerous scenes from the Bond film, including the kissing scenes between the lead stars.
The decision sparked a frenzy on social media.
According to the Hindustan Times, an insider said: “The Censor Board had nothing against James Bond kissing, but the length of the kisses were found to be excessive”.
“Spectre is an internationally applauded film, but again Pahlaj Nihalani messes it up by shading it with his own thought process”, Pandit wrote on Twitter.
The hashtag #SanskariJamesBond was a mock to the CBFC decision, which attempted to impose Indian morality on the most gallant character on screen; James Bond. “The censor board needs to keep in tune with modern Indian sensibilities”, said the Times of India in an editorial, calling the move “ridiculous…in this day and age”.
So this guy James Bond calls up nervously ranting about something. “What’s Bond doing?” “Pooja & Aarti” “Oh!”
Upcoming Bond film “Spectre” which has already launched world over can be showcased in India from Friday (November 20) onwards.
Bond covertly enlists Moneypenny (Harris) and Q (Whishaw) to help him seek out Madeleine Swann (Lea Seydoux), the daughter of his old nemesis Mr White (Jesper Christensen), who may hold the clue to untangling the web of SPECTRE.
Daniel Craig, in his fourth James Bond avatar, is suave and stylised.
“We have to be careful with films that get U/A certificate because they can be shown on TV and to all audiences following parental guidance”. While Bond films in the past, including Skyfall, have also had shots of Britain, Spectre-the 24th James Bond film-has showcased a few of Britain’s iconic locations including Blenheim Palace, Camden, Westminster Bridge and City Hall, enabling Bond fans to experience the adventure and luxury flavour of Britain in the movie.
