Man’s video creates run on Patti LaBelle pies
Viewers can’t help but be entertained by Wright’s antics and his honest love of the pie, which he continuously refers to as “Patti” and that he proceeds to consume, by himself, in its entirety.
In a recent video, Wright samples and reviews a Patti LaBelle sweet potato pie from Wal-Mart in real time.
Chanel’s video racked millions of views across sources, prompted nationwide sellouts and earned a personal phone call from LaBelle. Here in Arkansas, the video has gone viral.
Which means the pie that became a viral sensation during the weekend – selling roughly one every second – after a customer sang its praise in a YouTube video may not be back in time to grace your Thanksgiving table.
In fact, a few of the pies are being sold on eBay for $22 or more and can fetch $35 on amazon.com. Wednesday night, the Wal-Mart in Bartlesville had five LaBelle pies on the shelves.
The demand has sparked a black market for Labelle’s pies online, which normally retail for $4 each.
A recent YouTube review of Patti LaBelle’s good life sweet potato pie or the “Patti Edition” has caused folks to flock to stores to buy one.
Wright posted the video November 11. A Walmart spokesperson claims that the company is in the process of securing two million additional pounds of sweet potatoes, and hopes to have more pies on the shelves soon for those who would like a taste of “Patti” or who want to turn into her.
All this fuss thanks to one review.
“We’ve been working as fast and feverishly as possible”, Ales said.
“We need something like 2 million pounds of sweet potatoes, and that’s not something easy to get”, a Walmart spokeswoman said in a statement.
