Outside groups try to help Vitter catch up in Louisiana governor race
Republican candidate David Vitter sees the national discussion as an opportunity to gain ground in a runoff campaign where he’s fallen behind.
Edwards is making the fact that Vitter’s number appeared on the D.C. Madam’s phone list an issue in a campaign ad.
Vitter’s event will be at the Hilton New Orleans Airport Hotel at 901 Airline Dr.in Kenner.
Bobby Jindal, Louisiana’s part-time governor, has returned from a months-long hiatus in Iowa just in time to throw a verbal haymaker in the pointed direction of Republican David Vitter and Democrat John Bel Edwards, the men wrangling for his job.
With only two days before the run-off between David Vitter and John Bel Edwards, KNOE Anchor Chris Brown asked both Vitter and Edwards what is their stance on expanding Meidcaid in Louisiana.
The candidates’ positions on the issue don’t offer striking contrasts, however. “Louisiana already has an absentee governor, and now it seems our absentee Senator failed to do his duty as well”. However, Edwards tweeted Wednesday that as early as Saturday he called for a complete pause in the influx of Syrian refugees into the state.
Vitter has held press conferences to highlight the business endorsements and brings them up in debates, seeking to steer the conversation from his 2007 prostitution scandal, his high disapproval ratings and allegations that his campaign secretly recorded the Jefferson Parish sheriff and others.
It turns out that the “missing” refugee in Baton Rouge hadn’t disappeared at all.
“I think that it is [a top issue] as there’s no clear way to vet these people and make sure they aren’t terrorists”, Jenny Beth Martin, Chairman of the Tea Party Patriots Citizens Fund, which is supporting Vitter, told FoxNews.com.
Weigel points out that the hysteria over refugees from Syria coming to Louisiana is legitimate if misguided.
Recent polls have not been fun reading for the Vitter camp.
