Father names newborn son Bermondsey Millwall Den without telling wife
Mike Bloomfield revealed that he made the decision without the agreement of his wife, Kelly, saying it would be “a good way to get the next generation involved”.
He said: “If Beckham can name his son Brooklyn, I don’t see why I can’t call mine Bermondsey”.
Millwall fans are famous for their chant of “No-one likes us, we don’t care” but one supporter has tested the love of his wife to the limit by naming their child after the club without her knowledge.
He told the Southwark News that he had “threatened” to do so but his wife did not believe him. “I’m not sure how she’s going to react”.
“I don’t think anyone else has got a name like that”.
“She’s still a bit sore about it but she is starting to come round to the idea”.
I can only imagine that this “change” of heart came after some intense begging, pleading and maybe a few nights in the doghouse.
It seems inevitable that young Bermondsey (who, according to mum Kelly, “looks a bit like a Bermondsey”) will grow up to be the biggest Millwall fan this side of Deptford, right?
A die-hard football fan from Croydon, who named his son after Millwall FC’s home ground, said his new-born boy will be dropped off at Barnardos if he grows up a Crystal Palace fan.
Each to their own, we guess.
The pair also have a dog named Kitchener, named after legendary Millwall player Barry Kitchener, obviously.
I told her: “By the way, it’s Bermondsey Millwall Den”. In fact, while only born on October 27, Millwall’s smallest fan is already the proud owner of two tiny replica kits and a club teddy bear.
