Rookies of the Year awarded, Sano 3rd
On Monday, Astros shortstop Carlos Correa was named the 2015 American League Rookie of the Year.
For Houston Astros general manager Jeff Luhnow, the clock really began ticking on his tenure as architect for the next era of Astros baseball with the first pick in the 2012 entry draft.
This, after leading all rookies with 26 home runs and 99 RBI’s.
“So many people are truly deserving of this award and it’s definitely an honor for me to win it”, said Bryant.
“Now we know what it’s like to play playoff baseball”. He also won the NL’s Rookie of the Month twice and made it to the 2015 All-Star Game. “You want to be able to play in that atmosphere every single year”.
Correa’s red-hot rookie campaign netted him 17 first-place votes by members of the BBWAA, while Lindor received 13…making this a particularly close race for the AL’s top spot. 417 on-base percentage with runners in scoring position.
“At times I kind of got labeled like I really didn’t care about playing just because I was so relaxed up there”, the Cubs’ freshman phenom said.
And the 6-4, 210-pound Correa put up offensive numbers that drew comparisons to Alex Rodriguez and Cal Ripken Jr.
Correa batted with a. 279 average with 22 homers, 68 RBIs, 14 stolen bases and 52 runs scored for Houston, who reached the post-season after winning 86 regular-season games. Now, three years later, the risk has paid off in spades, as Correa is one of the brightest young stars in all of baseball, 21 years old with playoff success under his belt. (.353) and finished second in hits (122), doubles (22) and multi-hit games (39) after debuting on June 14 at Detroit.
“I played with a little chip on my shoulder this year”.
Kris Bryant was indeed that for Cubs fans in 2015.
Bryant also stole 13 bases and showed such surprising speed, aggressiveness and instincts that a major-league evaluator nicknamed him “The Untaggable Man”. Chicago brought up Bryant after waiting just long enough to ensure he can not become a free agent until after the 2021 season.
Seeking their first championship since 1908, the Cubs were swept by the NY Mets in the NLCS after beating the Cardinals in the NLDS. For a team expected to lean on their young players, Bryant was an ideal start to the plan.
