MLB schedule: Mets-KC open Sunday, Pirates-Miami in San Juan
They are the first regular-season games played in Puerto Rico since the NY Mets and the Marlins clashed in a three-game series there in June of 2010.
The Pittsburgh Pirates will play two games against the Miami Marlins in San Juan, Puerto Rico, in May. There will be a two-game series in baseball-crazed Puerto Rico next season and it features a flawless storm.
The Marlins have a history of playing games in Puerto Rico, previously doing it in 2003 against the Montreal Expos and 2010 against the NY Mets.
Changes in safety netting • Major League Baseball is close to new recommendations for safety netting at its stadiums for the 2016 season. Major League Baseball also announced that Roberto Clemente Day, usually celebrated in September, will be observed May 31. In honor of Pirates legend and Hall of Famer Roberto Clemente, the observance of Roberto Clemente Day will be held on May 31st in conjunction with the game.
While the teams will certainly be putting their best foot forward to win these two games at the end of May, Clemente will be the star of the show. Pirates outfielder Andrew McCutchen was the recipient of the Roberto Clemente Award this year.
From The Clipboard: Manfred also disclosed Thursday that Opening Day 2016 has a combined seven national ESPN telecasts.
The official announcement was through MLB’s public relations Twitter account.
The second game has the Toronto Blue Jays at the Tampa Bay Rays, starting at 4:05 ET on ESPN2.
