Ben Carson compares terrorists posing as refugees to ‘rabid dogs’
While speaking at a campaign event in Mobile, Alabama, Carson compared the need to screen refugees before they enter the US with the steps a community would take to protect children from rabid dogs.
Since the deadly terror attacks unfolded last week in Paris, other Republican candidates have ramped up their call for greater scrutiny of refugees entering the country and have lambasted President Obama’s plan to take in as many as 10,000 refugees over the next year.
“We are a very compassionate people, and we’re also very smart people, so we’re going to make sure we have a vetting process”, Carson said.
“By the same token, we have to have in place screening mechanisms that allow us to determine who the mad dogs are, quite frankly”, Carson said.
A story published Tuesday by The NY Times quoted one of Carson’s advisers as saying the retired neurosurgeon, who is making his first run for public office, is having trouble understanding foreign policy despite intense briefings on the subject. Carson also said that a few aspects of the Black Lives Matter movement are “sickening”, a move which surely cost him popularity points within the black community.
“It’s not enough just to have a Black face run for a Republican nomination”, says Wright Rigueur, the author of “The Loneliness of the Black Republican”.
ALVIN BAEZ/REUTERS Ben Carson is struggling to get a grip on foreign policy, no matter how often he’s briefed, according to two of his advisers.
“Wow – I’m as compassionate as the next guy, but I don’t want to bring anyone from that part of the world who isn’t fully screened and vetted in a satisfactory way”, said Carson. “Carson said. “‘Carson said ‘the Syrians are like rabid dogs!’ This is the type of thing that they do. “As a military leader I would be privileged to call him my commander-in-chief”.
However, when a reporter asked Carson who he consulted with about his recent op-ed in The Washington Post, the candidate said he sent the column to Williams to edit.
“The kind of African-American Republicans who have advanced to high office seem disconnected or even dismissive of African-American issues and concerns”, said David Niven, the researcher for the study.
Carson himself went on PBS NewsHour Tuesday and downplayed his involvement with Clarridge, who is an ex-CIA agent.
