Who to watch for at the Latin Grammys
The Smiths were the most striking couple on the red carpet at the 16 Annual Latin Grammy Awards which held at the MGM Grand Garden Arena on November 19, 2015 in Las Vegas, Nevada.
Hosted by Mexican actress Jacqueline Bracamontes and Puerto Rica singer and actress Roselyn Sancez, the awards aired Thursday night.
Longtime pop star Ricky Martin is up for three awards this year, including Record of the Year, Song of the Year and Best Contemporary Pop Vocal Album for his February 2015 release, A Quien Quiera Escuchar. She also kissed her friend and collaborator, Leonel Garcia, with whom she shares three nominations for the album.
But the unexpected victor of the night was Juan Luis Guerra, a major figure in bachata and merergue, two dance music styles born in the Dominican Republic. Last month, he dropped new music for the first time in 10 years. Last year, tickets to the awards show averaged $326 and in 2013, tickets averaged $481, showing a steady demand for the Latin Grammys over the last few years. He performed his hit song “Juntos (Together)” at the English-speaking awards. What a comeback! Did YOU love his performance?
“This is how we can use our power”, said Mana vocalist Fher as the group accepted their award for pop/rock album. “We have to exercise our right to vote, and vote for those who will give more quality to Latinos, to the candidates”. Univision was among the companies that cut ties with Trump after the remarks.
