Stephen Colbert slams GOP candidates for stance on Syrian refugees
On Thursday’s The Late Show with Stephen Colbert, politics once again took the forefront; however, ISIS was not going to be talked about. The bill would require that the U.S.’ top security officials would personally certify that each refugee that is let in to the United States from Syria or Iraq is not a threat. On Thursday, Stephen Colbert zeroed in on several of the GOP frontrunners – all of whom oppose the US taking in Syrian refugees. He then said that Donald Trump is not sure these refugees would want to live in the United States because of the climate difference. “Do I want to stay in a war zone where my family faces nearly certain death or do I want to go somewhere where I have to put on a jacket before I go to the mall? Because under the law, no one with a name like that will be allowed into the country”. (“Police do not believe that Abaaoud was in fact related to Aitboulahcen”, The Washington Post says, “but the police source said that the caller referred to him that way.”) Moroccan authorities also reportedly helped lead police to the apartment.
Colbert played the clip of President Obama mocking GOP candidates for president who he said was first afraid of debate moderators and now are afraid of women and orphans. “But since you brought it up, Mr. President, why shouldn’t we be scared of 3-year-olds?” Try negotiating with a three-year-old.
Colbert also took issue with the plan proposed by both Jeb Bush and Ted Cruz, who suggested that only Christian Syrians be allowed into the country and not Muslim Syrians. “You can tell because they’re each wearing one-man tents”.
“If you want to know if somebody is Christian, just ask them to complete this sentence”.
Colbert finished his point by quoting the Bible, particularly the line, “I was a stranger and you welcomed me in”. I was thirsty and you gave me something to drink. “If they don’t say ‘welcome me in, ‘ they are either a terrorist, or they are running for president”, he said.
