Bebe thought Man United transfer was ‘a joke’

Speaking to Spanish newspaper AS, the 25-year-old, now with La Liga side Rayo Vallecano on loan from Benfica, has admitted his shock at how the deal came about.

The decision proved to be an aberration on the part of Ferguson as Bebe turned out to be a huge flop at Old Trafford and after making only seven appearances in his four year stay the 25-year old left without much ceremony and thus, considered one of Sir Alex’s worst signing.

While Bebe is looked at with regret by the United fans, Ronaldo is deemed as one of the best players to step out for the Red Devils over the last generation.

“It all happened very quickly, a total surprise. I didn’t know if it was a joke”, Bebe told AS. I wasn’t there long, but I enjoyed it. It was every kids’ dream, it was insane.

Ronaldo is also a Portuguese ex-United forward – and the parallels between the two men would appear to end there.

“But when asked who his idol was, he said: “[Didier] Drogba, but also Cristiano because he’s Portuguese.

“[Rio] Ferdinand, [Ryan] Giggs, [Wayne] Rooney…a few months earlier I saw them on TV and then I was running, jumping, talking with them”.
