Palestinian and 2 Israelis shot dead yesterday, south Bethlehem
On Tuesday, Israel banned the radical wing of the country’s main Islamist organisation, accusing it of instigating violence at a sensitive Jerusalem holy site that preceded the wave of unrest. The wave of violence has claimed the lives of 15 Israelis and dozens of Palestinians.
Three were killed in the West Bank: an Israeli, Yaakov Don, 51; the American, Ezra Schwartz, on a gap year between high school and college; and a Palestinian, Shadi Arafa, 24.
“He was drenched in blood, stabbed all over”, Vaknin said.
The two attacks shattered almost a week of calm in Israel.
The attack took place in the Panorama building on Ben Tzvi Street in southern Tel Aviv on Thursday afternoon.
The West Bank attacker was shot, the army said, but the assailant s condition was not clear.
In the attack, a Palestinian gunman opened fire with a submachine gun at cars stuck in a traffic jam around 5 p.m. Schwartz was pronounced dead at the scene.
Referring to a series of government measures passed in recent weeks, Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu said that Israel would exact a harsh punishment on those who carry out attacks against it’s citizens. The group also visited a nature reserve dedicated to the memory of the three boys who were killed in the West Bank a year and a half ago, Eyal Yifrach, Gilad Shaar and Naftali Fraenkel.
The Israeli military said the motorist shot at the cars, then intentionally rammed his vehicle into a group of pedestrians.
The Palestinians, who lack citizenship and wish to establish a Palestinian state, may also be driven by pessimism as the last round of talks to end the conflict ended in April 2014 without results, and as leaders of both sides blame each other for responsibility of the increasing violence.
The attack, in Israel’s economic hub of Tel Aviv returned the violence to the Israeli heartland, shattering a lull that had set in outside of the West Bank, and stoking Israeli fears that a fully-fledged Palestinian uprising could erupt.
Three people were killed in the incident, with at least one of them confirmed as Israeli and another a suspected attacker.
West Bank cities have many smartphone users and a burgeoning high-tech industry, but Palestinian carriers have been forced to make do with 2G data bandwidth.
He admitted to using a recently obtained work permit to enter Tel Aviv with the sole intention of killing Jews, Haaretz reported. And about the Tel Aviv attack, it mentioned only that “two people” – meaning two Jews – “were killed”, with the passive voice covering up the Palestinian identity of the attacker.
His brother Baha said he was hit by Israeli fire although an investigation is underway to determine the exact circumstances of his death.
