Israel outlaws Islamic Movement
Israel was infuriated by the European Commission’s new set of guidelines on marking products made in seized territories in East Jerusalem, the West Bank and the Golan Heights.
The ad, placed by The World Values Network, where Rabbi Shmuley Boteach serves as executive director, decried Palestinians’ actions against Israelis and went on to blast Kerry for saying that “there’s been a massive increase in [illegal Israeli] settlements over the course of the last years and there’s an increase in the violence because there’s this frustration that’s growing”.
“We will continue to act against those who incite and who encourage terrorism, wherever they are”, Netanyahu said. “We don’t only condemn settlement building which is illegal and carried out by the Israeli occupation authority through systematic settlement building, we also submit complaints to the parties concerned”, said Maliki.
“Against the backdrop of continued tensions between Israelis and Palestinians in Jerusalem and the West Bank, all steps that could lead to an escalation should be avoided”, she said. “As always, [Netanyahu] uses cynicism…to pass the housing units under the radar”, Israeli lawmaker Omer Bar-Lev of the progressive Zionist Union said in a statement.
Netanyahu added the Islamic movement dispatched paid operatives to rally crowds at the al-Aqsa mosque in Jerusalem motivated “to subvert the state in order to establish an Islamic caliphate in its place”.
The cabinet charged the northern branch of the Islamic Movement with links to terrorist groups and inciting the recent wave of violence, and said in a statement that membership or activity within the framework of the group would constitute a “criminal offense punishable by a prison sentence”.
Arab Israelis make up about 20 percent of Israel’s population. The committee has called for a mass protest on 28 November, and denounced Yaalon’s decision as a policy of political persecution aimed at silencing all the Palestinian political movements and parties and their representatives. A general strike and mass protests have been called. Israel had no choice but to administer the territories until Arab countries agreed to negotiate land for peace, as required by UN Resolutions 242 and 343, which Egypt finally did in 1979, getting back the Sinai.
Netanyahu has attached conditions to the creation of a Palestinian state, including Palestinian recognition of Israel as the nation-state of the Jewish people. Around 200,000 Jewish settler colonists now live in East Jerusalem alongside 370,000 Palestinians.
The day before the ad appeared in The NY Times, a news story in the same paper detailed how “two dozen men wearing bulky jackets, woollen caps, hoodies and checkered kaffiyehs barged into a hospital in the West Bank city of Hebron before dawn … pushing what appeared to be a very pregnant woman in a wheelchair”.
Palestinian attacks, mainly stabbings, have killed 14 Israelis, and at least 83 Palestinians have been killed by Israeli fire, including 51 Israel alleges were involved in assaults.
(JNS.org) The chairman of the Dutch Socialist Party, Jan Marijnissen, said he believes the perpetrators of the Paris terror attacks that killed 129 people were motivated in part by the Israeli-Palestinian conflict.
“It is not just punishing the political position of the Islamic movement through its stance on Jerusalem and the al-Aqsa compound”, Khatib said. The status quo holds that only Muslims are allowed to pray on the mount, which is also the holiest site in Judaism, revered as the site of the two biblical Temples.
