Cook is the engine that makes MI State’s offense go, so the Spartans coaching and medical staff will do everything in their power to have him ready for next week. MSU was then able to hang on from there.

There is now cause for concern with MI State 1st-round quarterback prospect Connor Cook.

“I just think it’s another opportunity to prove yourself”, Dantonio said.

“I probably could have gone”, said Cook. “I had full confidence in my arm, my ability and my health”, Cook said. We take that into the (Ohio State) game.

“We will be alright, Connor will be alright”.

Dantonio said Cook was a “9.5” out of 10 to play well against Ohio State.

MI State quarterback Connor Cook left Saturday’s game against Maryland with an apparent right shoulder injury. On the previous play before the controversial touchdown pass, Spartans senior cornerback Arjen Colquhoun dropped a game-clinching interception in the endzone. Each deep ball he threw never had a chance, including a just a bad overthrow when he had Aaron Burbridge open downfield that was intercepted. Go on long scoring drives, come up with a big defensive stop here and there – it won’t be that hard a gameplan. Perry Hills was 14 of 30 for 140 yards with an interception, and Caleb Rowe had two of his five attempts picked off. Obviously as a B1G fan I want to say that but my cousin just started his freshman season as a forward at Air Force so I am now an Atlantic Hockey guy also! All 17 of MI State’s first half points came off Maryland turnovers.

The Maryland defense stood tall for the next 20 minutes of action, but it was Riley Bullough’s interception for a touchdown that broke the 7-7 draw with 2:07 to play in the first half. MI State has to control things it can control on the field on both sides of the ball.

Mark Dantonio echoed the sentiments of his middle linebacker. “We had to get back up and play”. After a designed quarterback run for Hills to pick up 32 yards and possibly look for a score before halftime, Maryland had their usual collapse. “I thought Holmes ran well”. While the preseason triple-double was great, only three MI State players (Magic Johnson, Draymond Green and Charlie Bell) have ever achieved the feat in a regular-season game and Valentine has made it a goal for the upcoming season. The performance did not go unnoticed.

Turnovers continue to be a common theme for the Maryland football team. Maryland’s offense is been extremely pedestrian this season having averaged just over 300 ypg in Big Ten play. This was a big improvement from a group that was giving up nearly 14 yards per return coming into the game.
