Facebook at Work launches a devoted chat app on Android
Though much to the chagrin of employers, it is hardly a secret that many of us check in on Facebook happenings while at work.
Even though Facebook at Work looks and feels like the social network, employees can select whether they want to keep their work account separate from a personal account, or if the two should be linked.
Users of Facebook at Work now have their own Messenger-style messaging application, as Work Chat is available for Android via Google Play.
In order to use the new Work Chat feature, users will need to already have an active account of Facebook at Work.
Work Chat lets you quickly message people at your company.
If you do have one, however, you can use the app to send messages to co-workers or create group chats with multiple co-workers. As first reported by TechCrunch, the social networking giant has just unveiled a chat app for the initiative.
The “Work Chat” application is available on Google Play store and according to the company, the iOS version is in the works.
While messaging has already been built inside of Facebook at Work app, a standalone app is being pushed out as it is said to be more capable.
The new service made its original debut with a soft launch back in January.
The market for online work collaboration platforms is already a competitive field with big names like Microsoft and Salesforce offering products, and, of course, the darling startup Slack which has taken the productivity space by storm in recent years.
This Facebook at Work and Work Chat service looks similar to Facebook and Messenger apps, except that it is restricted within your company.
