Lewis Hamilton wants changes to F1’s technical rules after ‘boring’ Brazilian GP
Rosberg won the Brazilian Grand Prix to take his second victory in a row, following his fifth consecutive pole.
In an apparent indication that he possessed the superior race pace, Hamilton closed to within a second of Rosberg’s Mercedes for a series of laps midway through the grand prix.
Sebastian Vettel, now consigned to finishing third in the standings, completed the podium places with his Ferrari team-mate Kimi Raikkonen crossing the line in fourth. Both pitted early and Rosberg managed to hold the lead by 0.9 seconds after the first round of stops with Vettel and Raikkonen right behind.
“We saw Lewis dropping off a lot in the second stint with degradation and that confirmed it was important to take care of the tyres”.
The world champion again moved onto his teammate’s tail in the third stint, but became increasingly frustrated with Interlagos’ notoriously tight confines as no overtaking opportunities opened up.
The 25 points Rosberg earned for a win mean that he will finish second in the drivers’ championship for the second year running.
An unimpressed Hamilton retorted: “Contrary to what Nico was saying, at one point I was all over him, but I just couldn’t get by”.
Hamilton in turn asked his team for a change of strategy, or indeed anything that might give him a way to get the better of Rosberg.
“It was a great weekend for me here, but of course everything is relative because of what happened in Paris”, the German said.
The importance of momentum can be exaggerated but Rosberg, and Formula One as a whole, needs to believe the German can take the fight to Hamilton from the start of next season rather than going missing again.
It may be that Hamilton’s attention has waned since Texas, the Briton conceding he might have overdone the partying, while Mercedes made clear their priority was to help Rosberg finish second overall. “So he will find good arguments when he needs them”. “I just couldn’t get close enough in that last sector and I did have the fastest lap, so obviously I had the pace”.
It is always nice when you’re at the front – as we have been for a few time now – but still being able to race is what fans want to see.
“I just killed my tyres”. Because some races you can follow which enables you to have some good racing, obviously places like Austin where there was the last decent race, but otherwise there are some places it’s jus t…
“For me, I think we have to try to have a few options and then see how it plays out”. Something has shifted in the vehicle, I guess I have been a little bit less comfortable with it.
“I’m a bit like a football trainer, the team is as strong because we kept the group together”.
