Nitish sworn in as CM, Lalu’s son his Dy
Mr. Ashok Choudhary, the state Congress president, has been given Education and Information Technology.
Alok Mehta from Rashtriya Janata Dal takes oath. During the blistering poll campaign, the PM’s comment had elicited immediate counter attack from Lalu’s daughter Misa Bharti whom RJD deserter and now Union minister Ramkripal Yadav had defeated in 2014 parliamentary election.
From the JD(U) side, those who took oath are: Bijendra Yadav, Rajiv Ranjan Singh Lalan, Shrawan Kumar, Jai Kumar Singh, Krishna Nandan Verma, Maheshwar Hazari, Shailesh Kumar, Manju Devi, Santosh Kumar Nirala, Khurshid Firoz Ahmad, Madan Sahni and Kapildeo Kamat.
Interestingly, as iamin spoke to the people who had travelled from far-flung areas of Bihar to attend the ceremony, many confided that they were confused who among RJD Chief Lalu Prasad Yadav and JD(U) Chief Nitish Kumar was taking CM’s oath.
Mr Tejaswi Yadav, the new Deputy Chief Minister, will be in charge of Road Construction and Building Construction Departments.
He staked claim before Bihar governor Ramnath Kovind to form new government in the state.
Apart from accepting Lalu’s son as his deputy, Nitish also made another compromise by allowing the RJD to walk away with major portfolios.
Nitish Kumar becomes Bihar CM for fifth time. Both are first-time lawmakers.
Representing Prime Minister Narendra Modi on the dais was central minister M. Venkaiah Naidu.
The Bihar loss for the BJP has been its worst showing and a return to political relevance for Lalu Prasad Yadav. This was described as a courtesy call by the Chief Minister’s Office.
The Grand Alliance won 178 of the 243 seats in the Bihar assembly.
According to JD-U leaders, Nitish Kumar will take oath at the head of a 36-member council of ministers.
His Congress party had acquired a serious increase within the just lately held Bihar elections because it gained 27 of the forty one seats it contested.
Twenty-eight ministers – 12 each from the JD(U) and RJD and four from the Congress – figure in list of ministers. Lalu Prasad’s younger son Tejaswi Yadav is expected to get a plum post.
All the ministers of the new cabinet took oath at the same event today.
“Such a thing has never happened. It is the beginning of opposition unity in the country”, he said. The DMK’s M K Stalin and T R Baalu also attended the event. Roy, who is Minister for Parlaimentary Affairs and Food in the Raghubar Das government, was also invited by Kumar for the swearing-in. Lalu supremacy also left discontent among ministry hopefuls with Shyam Rajak (JD-U) even unwilling to participate in the oath-taking ceremony.
