French Muslims attend Friday prayers under tight security
The attacks signal a new chapter in the battle against ISIS, and without a doubt, the military, intelligence, and law enforcement responses to these attacks will be felt for years to come, and not just in France.
The terrorist attacks in Paris were immediately described by President Obama as “an attack on all of humanity and the universal values we share”.
The attack on Paris was “an abomination”, he said, but it was only the latest in a series. We stand with Paris.
There are 6 million Muslims living in France today.
“We’re the same people as you”.
Paris has had to endure so much hardship in 2015, with the Charlie Hebdo attack and now this terrifying bombing, shooting and hostage situation.
For his part, Trump has mentioned closing down mosques across the country, listing American Muslims in a database and offering them a special ID.
Radio host and Fox News personality Sean Hannity grossly misrepresented a Pew Research poll detailing views of ISIS in countries with significant Muslim populations to misleadingly claim that there are “significant levels of support for ISIS within the Muslim world”.
This time, hundreds in Kashmir condemned the wave of attacks in Paris, with hardline leader Syed Ali Shah Geelani saying the “killing of innocents in the name of religion is in no way justifiable”. Many were carried out by separatist organizations motivated by nationalist sentiment or ethnic beliefs.
However, an Islamic state does not call for terrorism and any practicing Muslim will tell you this. He said the Muslim religion is misunderstood, especially when it comes to terror groups like ISIS. Other reputable studies yield similar findings. I am proud of the way British Muslims have overwhelmingly spoken out against them. Paris is an indicator of this. “Does it matter? I’m sorry, but radical Islam is becoming the rule, not the exception”.
“We are also mothers”. ISIS is not a representation of Islam, but rather it represents everything evil about this world. Supporters of the so-called Islamic State group targeted France’s national stadium, a concert hall and bars and restaurants, armed with AK-47s and grenades and wearing suicide bomb vests. Here in the U.S., religious groups were heavily involved in the political debate over whether the United States should stop admitting Syrian and Iraqi refugees because of security concerns. All of this points to an important truth. British Muslims are natural, willing and eager partners against ISIS.
The group has received a lot of positive comments, from Asia to Latin America, says Ben Allal.
“We urge public officials and presidential candidates not to scapegoat American Muslims and not allow Islam to be demonised by Islamophobes or by the anti-Islamic actions or terrorists”, said Nihad Awad of CAIR. But as a French Muslim I’m a double victim. because I’m being stigmatized, I’m being pointed out, I’m being blamed for being responsible, which I’m not. Our fight against ISIS is their fight too. If we lose sight of this, if we turn on our Muslim neighbors, we give ISIS a far greater victory than it ever could have imagined.
