Peyton Manning, Brock Osweiler haven’t spoken about game plan vs

What if this is it for Peyton Manning? “I’m disappointed about that”, reported the Denver Post.

If Manning is out for weeks and Osweiler plays like Jimmy Clausen, the Broncos could be in absolute freefall.

Although this will be Osweiler’s first start, the Kalispell native has seen action in eight regular season games for the Broncos, completing 31 passes for over 300 yards and two touchdowns during his pro career.

Osweiler’s numbers against the Chiefs last week left a lot to be desired: 14-for-24, 146 yards, a touchdown and an interception. But he also definitely has wisdom and advice that could be given to Osweiler in advance of his first start. While Peyton Manning’s career is surely coming to a close, his leadership on Sunday could have helped Osweiler significantly.

Kubiak had said Monday that he wanted Manning’s “total focus” to be on his rehabilitation. We’re very competitive. We want to get out there. Denver’s run game has been equally lame but with a healthier offensive line and emphasis on the running (and bootleg) game, I think Denver’s rushing attack will flourish and take pressure off Osweiler’s passing. Peyton Manning will eventually return but a strong performance from the big-armed and athletic Osweiler could keep Manning on the bench for a while (and he needs the rest). With the way that the Bears are playing for Fox, Gase, and defensive coordinator Vic Fangio, this could get ugly for the Broncos, especially if Bears quarterback Jay Cutler limits his turnovers. A player who exceeds expectation, by say, throwing for 12 yards on a 3rd-and-8, accrues positive NEP for that play for extending the drive.

“It’s been going really [well]”, Ware said. “So, I know the mind-set here is we just worry about one week at a time. We spent a good hour together up there. Against Chicago, we know he’s not going to be there. Hurt and diminished, Manning was so terrible against Kansas City it hurt to watch.

He wants to go and do everything he can for his football team … but only, apparently, on his own terms.

“Its great to have those, certainly because just rotation, one, and then your different personnel packages”. He’s said he wants to play another 10 years, but maybe after seeing what happened to Manning he’ll think differently.

Renck: Regardless of how Osweiler plays Sunday, I believe Manning should sit out against the Patriots next week.
