The Hunger Games: Mockingjay director wants to do a prequel
I feel that the quality of the movie series has pretty much stuck to the quality of the books: the first was the best, the second weaker but still OK, and the third the weakest of them all. Along the way they’re faced with deadly obstacles that basically turn the entire city into yet another Hunger Games, and they also realize that the lines between good and evil aren’t as clear as they thought when they set out.
The plot remained about as close to the books as fans of the Suzanne Collins novels would hope. But when they get to Snow’s doorstep, Katniss’s encounter with her nemesis isn’t quite what she expects.
Of course, “The Hunger Games” series isn’t the only adaptation franchise to split the final book of a series into two parts. The arc is complete. The small details are what counts here.
It’s hard to say whether fans of Suzanne Collins’s books will enjoy “Part 2” in spite of its shortcomings since the print “Mockingjay” seems to have a mixed reputation. This part of the movie set record on box office.
Unfortunately, as is often the case with large Young Adult franchises, these fantastic actors are lost somewhat as director Francis Lawrence tries to tie up all loose ends with the main teens; Jennifer Lawrence, Josh Hutcherson and Liam Hemsworth. This is truly an adventure movie. A tighter and much more balanced film could easily be achieved by editing both films into one. Time moves and jumps without warning. This movie will become the biggest hit of 2015.
Even less time is spent with the supporting characters who enriched the first two films, who seemingly show up for a cameo in their own franchise.
She’s particularly proud of playing such a strong female.
This would put the film in the same range as last year’s “Mockingjay – Part 1”. Peeta is struggling after he was tortured in the Capitol, still convinced that Katniss is the true threat. It is wonderful what these parts do to complement each other. In this movie, Katniss Everdeen belongs to a poor family. A few sequels you can see without having the base knowledge from its predecessors but this is a franchise of which you need to have a base familiarity. “She has been the best possible Katniss”, he raves.
A year ago, I walked out of “The Hunger Games: Mockingjay – Part 1” disappointed that I had watched a once relatively exciting series come to a screeching halt.
Speaking to Yahoo, director Francis Lawrence, who helmed the last three of the four movies, has joined the accidental trend started by Peter Jackson yesterday, of surprising honesty about the challenges of the schedule he was on. Sound may always be overlooked or unappreciated and especially in this movie due to the incredibly long sequences of silence, but congratulations to Howard on his work for this film. In this final film, fans will get a satisfying resolution.
