Florida Unemployment Rate Drops to 5.1 Percent
Paul Mason, economist with University of North Florida said the jobless figure fell to 4.9 percent in October, down from 5.1 percent in September after seasonal adjustments. Thirty-two states and the District of Columbia had unemployment rate decreases from September, 3 states had increases, and 15 states had no change, the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics reported today.
“The state’s unemployment rate continues to improve, falling to 4.1 percent in October”, said Kansas Secretary of Labor, Lana Gordon.
The New Haven labor market was hit hard in October, losing 1,400 jobs last month.
Alabama’s unemployment rate dropped slightly last month as state employment expanded to the highest level since the beginning of the recession nearly seven years ago, officials said Friday. It was 6.0 percent in September, as it was in October 2014. At that point, initial weekly unemployment claims rose to over 650,000, the highest level since 1983.
Employment figures are estimated from surveys of employers, who report the number of jobs, and of households, where people are asked whether they are seeking jobs. “We had our best month for job growth in ten years, and the unemployment rate fell again”.
The unemployment rates for Grand Island, Lincoln and Omaha have not been seasonally adjusted, so they can not be directly compared with the state unemployment rate.
Here are the jobless rates for the other counties in the Deep East Texas Workforce Development Area. Nonfarm payrolls grew an estimated 13,000 with the largest gains in professional and business services, construction and financial activities. It is a preliminary report that will be revised both next month and again next year. The USA growth rate during that period was 1.9 percent. Over the month, no region had a statistically significant unemployment rate change.
In October of 2014, Angelina County had a jobless rate of 4.8 percent. The number of Coloradans participating in the labor force decreased 14,800, total employment increased 3,500 and the number of unemployed decreased 18,400.
