Who was behind the controversial angle on RAW?, WWE issues statement, Ric
“Subject matter this personal is only approved as a result of the strong advocacy of the talent themselves”, the WWE said in a statement, according to Wrestlingheadlines.com.
We also previewed Survivor Series, which airs this Sunday on the WWE Network.
However, on Ric Flair’s podcast yesterday (which was recorded on Tuesday), he said that Charlotte had no choice but to go along with what she was asked to do.
The site notes that this isn’t just a situation where she was given a script and told to follow it; ihe idea for angle was presented to Charlotte and was something she was able to give feedback on, both in terms of how it was presented and the verbiage used. Reports suggested that WWE had indeed taken the bit of Charlotte’s late brother out of the script, but Charlotte pushed the Creative to include the angle and went ahead with it on RAW. Charlotte had brought Reid up earlier in the angle, saying that she got into WWE because of him.
At this point I don’t know who approved, who was in the know or not but I do know that more fans are talking more about Reid Flair than Charlotte vs. Paige which is not good. Incorporating real-life tragedies in professional wrestling storylines is extremely controversial. People keep asking about the stuff CM Punk and Paul Heyman did during his Wrestlemania program with The Undertaker, mocking the then recently deceased Paul Bearer. I know for a fact WWE ran the angle by Bearer’s children before they did. Dirt Sheet for iPhone, Android and iPad.
