Gas down 2 cents in Sudbury
Deer hunters will have more than snow to be thankful for as gun season opens this weekend – gas prices have plunged along with the temperatures, dropping below $2 a gallon in a few parts of the state. That’s down nearly 7 cents from Thursday’s average price at the pump. And in a few places in the suburbs and in the city it is under 2 dollars a gallon.
You might be doing double-takes as you pass a gas station these days – but yes, prices really are that low.
“With all the supplies that we have and refineries running at record paces, we’re seeing the decrease of gas prices in the Chicago area”.
Low gas prices are also welcome with the coming holidays.
“As we head into December, January, February those are the lowest amounts of gas prices because demand is at the lowest at that point in time as well”.
The national average is now $2.11 and that’s expected to go below $2 a gallon by Christmas for the first time since 2009.
Those expecting a “holiday bump” in prices can forget it, DeHaan said.
“Generally the demand is low in winter. Prices are as equally likely to fall as they are to rise, just like they are for the rest of the year”.
“The difference this year is the drop in the crude oil price”, said DeHaan.
