China lauds vision of Justin Trudeau’s father in establishing relations
During meeting with Canadian Prime Minister, Justin Trudeau, Xi Jinping said China and Canada should expand cooperation, enhance mutual trust, and further promote long-term healthy and stable strategic partnership.
“Security remains a primary concern for the government of Canada, particularly at this time, post the Paris attacks, which have caused a lot of people concern”.
“If there’s a chance that only one person would use the refugee process to come into this country with a plan to do ill … that’s worth a few circumspection”, Wall said. The premier of the resource-rich province of Saskatchewan, Brad Wall, wrote to Mr. Trudeau to urge him to suspend his plan on Syrian refugees given the Paris attacks. “Our nations can welcome refugees who are desperately seeking safety and ensure our own security”. “There are many, many discussions that we’re going to be able to build on, but I’m not going to speculate on what those can be”, Trudeau said when asked about investment rules. The Americans are leading the worldwide coalition’s efforts and Obama is scheduled to have a sit-down meeting with Trudeau at the APEC summit in the Philippines on Thursday.
He also said that G20 countries should unite their forces and solve the problems by considering growth “for everyone”.
Trudeau also met French Foreign Minister Laurent Fabius on Monday and offered continuing solidarity with France. Trudeau agreed with President Xi in boosting high-level exchanges.
The other issue that will be discussed at the G20 summit will be climate change.
Prior to the Trudeau meeting, Fabius defended France’s decision to launch retaliatory air strikes on ISIL in Raqqa, Syria on Sunday.
Trudeau is expected to speak to Canadian reporters Monday before leaving the G20 summit that has been dominated by the deadly attacks in Paris. The group claimed responsibility for Friday’s attacks in the French capital, which killed 129 and left hundreds injured.
“We have committed to have a more regular dialog on a broad range of issues, the economy and trade being at the center of it obviously, but a broad range of other issues as well, including action on climate change and emissions reduction”, Trudeau said.
He described a brief conversation with Russian President Vladimir Putin, with whom his predecessor Stephen Harper refused to engage.
“I’m well aware we have an opportunity to set a fresh approach in our relationship right now”, Trudeau told Xi before a bilateral meeting Monday.
