Jonny Evans set for Everton as part of Manchester United overhaul
“I can tell you clearly that there is nothing true in that story”.
Evans has made 198 appearances for the Red Devils, but he failed to make an impression in Louis van Gaal’s first season at the club.
Jonny Evans’ future at Old Trafford has been under constant speculation this summer and recent reports claimed that the Northern Ireland global was close to securing a move to Everton.
However, Press Association Sport understands Everton’s response is a categoric rejection, with manager Roberto Martinez intent on building a team.
According to the report, United want £10 million for the player, while Everton only value him at £6 million.
But Martinez was adamant today in Singapore that the Blues are not lining up the 27-year-old.
Martinez also brushed off suggestions he was on the brink of signing Jonny Evans from Manchester United.
The club gave centre-back John Stones, 21, squad No 5 earlier this week and look set to resist any potential offers for 24-year-old midfielder James McCarthy.
City appear to be turning their attention to Everton man McCarthy after missing out on England star Fabian Delph, who opted to stay at Aston Villa.
The Republic of Ireland global has become an integral figure for Everton since he followed his old Wigan boss to the club in 2013 and Martinez is determined to keep hold of him.
“Last season we didn’t live up to expectations and I am looking forward to putting that right this campaign”, he added of the side’s 11th-place finish in the Premier League.
