Iowa State at Kansas State
Kansas State had one timeout – Iowa State had two – in the final 1:31, but the Cyclones elected to run the ball instead of taking a knee and punting with what would have been less than 10 seconds remaining.

An explosion of offense in the second quarter propelled the Cyclones (3-8, 2-6) to a 21-point lead against the previously struggling Wildcats (4-6, 1-6) at halftime.
Iowa State lost 38-35, and Mangino, who was sacked earlier this season, took to Twitter to needle his former team.
ABOUT KANSAS STATE (3-6, 0-6): Quarterback Joe Hubener is a good runner (420 yards, 11 touchdowns) but isn’t even ranked among the top 10 passers in the Big 12, completing just 97-of-207 passes (46.9 percent) for 1,403 yards, eight touchdowns and seven interceptions. After running one play to put the ball in the middle of the field at the Cyclone 25-yard line, K-State kicker Jack Cantele came on the field, waited through two timeouts called by Iowa State, and then booted a 42-yard field goal to lift the Wildcats to a 38-35 win.
“They enjoyed the daylights out of it”, Wildcats coach Bill Snyder said. A lot of times we always say, ‘Act like you’ve been there before.’ We didn’t act like we’ve been there before, but we needed that. Warren fumbled on first down, which was recovered by the Wildcats in their own territory.
Don’t look now, but beleaguered Iowa State is playing better.
The Wildcats pieced together its only offensive scoring drive of the first half with a trick-play. “If you were to look down at those 16 goals, there is hardly a one that doesn’t apply to where we sit on this given day”, Snyder said at his weekly press conference.
Kansas State scored four plays later on a five-yard run by Charles Jones to tie the game 35-35 with 40 seconds left. “Regardless of what the score is on the scoreboard, we’re going to finish and fight until the last second”.
