Families Participate In National Adoption Day

At the Passaic County Courthouse in Paterson, about 22 youths in foster care were adopted during an event Friday.
Edmonson, with husband Drew, has adopted three children in the past six years.
“I want to do the whole PJs and popcorn the night before, open one present”, said Frazee.
Gray was born and raised in New Jersey, but little about her upbringing was normal. The children who are not adopted, he said, often cost taxpayers $300,000 each over their lifetimes for various social services.
“2012 is when I officially went in”, Joseph said.
It isn’t an easy journey, she said. “They would do a home study and evaluate all aspects of the home environment”.
DJ Ow-Chang said these plans showed “she was only concerned about the fact that she would “lose” her child”, and did not have the child’s interest at heart.
“He’s learning to be a human and I’m learning to be a mom”, said Brianna Dennis said.
At this point, they’re nervously waiting for a call from a potential birth mother. That’s because kids in the foster system can feel unmoored by not having the stability of a single set of parents or a home.
“However motherhood comes to you, it’s a miracle”. You know you have a father. “For a few of our teenagers, they have spent many years in our care and spent time in several foster homes”. So even in relationships, adults relationships, I felt that way.
The Steenblock’s say that being an adoptive parent is a blessing for everyone involved. So far, 86 have yet to be matched. We wanted to change the lives of as many kids as we can. “We just can’t imagine our life before him and look forward to every day after this”.
Dru said there was an instant connection with Sofia when they met. “They’ve completely lost everything”. It was DCF. There is another baby needing a home. And they have baggage. “They’re just like any other kid”. Forty-five hundred children were adopted during the 15th annual National Adoption Day throughout the month of November, 2014, and almost 400 cities participated across the United States. “You fall in love with them and you can’t give them up!”
Teams from Department of Children and Families met with all the children periodically.
And these families say finalizing the adoption outside the courtroom setting made the day extra special.
“There are, however, still children in need of a permanent family”.
