SA Food Bank Short on Turkeys for Thanksgiving
Giant Food donated 1,000 turkeys to the Capital Area Food Bank Thursday.
NBC Connecticut joined forces with Access Health CT, Foodshare and Connecticut Food Bank to host the event.
The Orange County Food Bank is short of turkeys to distribute to the needy this Thanksgiving and is seeking last-minute donations.
Refrigerated or frozen turkeys can be delivered to the food bank at 11870 Monarch St., Garden Grove, through 3 p.m. Wednesday.
In keeping with Giant’s longtime mission of alleviating hunger, this year’s total donation of 5,000 turkeys will help feed thousands in Washington, D.C., Maryland, Virginia, and Delaware.
Several Cumulus stations will be broadcasting the annual drive live from several collection sites.
“The awareness is important”, Lopez said on Pepper’s show.
“It’s a struggle to give families a food box that’s missing that Thanksgiving ingredient” Cooper said. “We think that these food drives are a great way to educate their children and grandchildren about the importance of giving back; they can really have a hands-on way to do that”.
Also, don’t forget about the ongoing Food 4 SA campaign, which will aim to collect 1 million pounds of food during the month of November.
With the help of the community, the food bank surpassed its goal.
