Gabbert will start for 49ers against Seahawks

On paper, San Francisco is set up for a textbook blowout.Kaepernick also disagreed with offensive coordinator Geep Chryst’s assertion that he’d been playing cautiously since throwing four interceptions against the Cardinals in week three.

A first-round bust in Jacksonville, Gabbert made his first start in more than two years and exhibited the poise and production demoted starter Colin Kaepernick lacked all year.

Atlanta will not recover easily from this loss. “That’s part of the game, but everyone in this organization and in that locker room has Q’s back”. A loss to the lowly 49ers is inexcusable.

The Falcons acknowledge that the offense has stumbled into the bye week. They failed to score a touchdown in the opening quarter once again. You know what I’m saying?

The Falcons, however, had struck first, taking a 3-0 lead with 9:25 left in the opening quarter on Bryant’s 44-yard field goal, capping a 46-yard drive.

And, in the process, Gabbert endeared himself to his 49ers teammates by making sure to share the credit after Sunday’s victorious debut. Gabbert completed passes to seven different receivers, including two touchdown passes to tight end Garrett Celek.

Including Tom Brady, when a quarterback is great, he’s never as great as the media makes him out to be.

Perhaps most surprising was the Falcons’ offense was contained even though Atlanta had no turnovers and only six penalties.

Although Tomsula downplayed the benching of Colin Kaepernick as an opportunity for the ersatz franchise quarterback to “step back and breathe”, Gabbert simply gives the team a better chance to win right now.

NOTES: Atlanta was held to 17 yards rushing…. So their 17-16 victory, upgrading them from a potential 2-7 (we’ll see you next July) to 3-6 (we’ll see you in two weeks in Seattle) came attached with shock value.

It was nice to get that win, but I wasn’t falling out of my seat.

In Sunday’s victory over the visiting Atlanta Falcons, the inside linebacker, in his comeback season from knee surgery and a long rehab, roamed from sideline to sideline and was incredibly active in helping to limit the NFL’s leading rusher, Devonta Freeman, to just 12 yards on 12 carries. His defense needed a three and out after that for the ATL to have a shot. Having been born and raised in Georgia, I’m a Falcons fan myself and certainly felt the positive momentum. He’s lost his past 10 consecutive National Football League starts and, according to Paul Gutierrez of ESPN.com, his total QBR (ESPN’s quarterback rating formula) of 22.6 since his rookie season of 2011 is the lowest among all QBs with at least 500 snaps.
