Democratic Debate: Sanders Hits Clinton on Iraq, Wall Street Ties
Sanders and Martin O’Malley both sought at the debate to paint Clinton as a favorite of Wall Street, with Sanders questioning why big banks and financial institutions were her chief campaign contributors.
“I represented NY and I represented NY on 9/11 when we were attacked”, Clinton said. Clinton struggled the defend her prior comment, telling the audience, “I’m sorry”.
Sen. Bernard Sanders has repeatedly said he’s unwilling to make any character attacks against Democratic front-runner Hillary Rodham Clinton in his quest for the White House, and famously stood up for her in the first debate saying Americans were “sick and tired” of hearing about her email scandal.
The national endorsement is not binding to state and local SEIU chapters – a local chapter in New Hampshire, for example, endorsed Sanders earlier this month – but the national endorsement comes with more infrastructure, money and organization than the local backing.
Clinton, who is the Democratic frontrunner, said using the term “radical Islam” would be “painting with too broad a brush”, so she would rather not use it. She also believes that the term is “not particularly helpful”.
“We were attacked in downtown Manhattan where Wall Street is”. “At the same time, a lot will go back to when she was Secretary of State and the things she did while the Secretary that helped ISIS develop more in the middle east”. The union’s efforts have been instrumental in getting higher minimum wages in Los Angles, New York, San Francisco and Seattle. “It was good for the economy, and it was a way to rebuke the terrorists who had attacked our country”. Her invoking of 9/11 received an incredulous response on social media and Republicans accused her of shamefully hiding behind the attacks to deflect attention from her ties to her wealthiest donors. “But I think we do need to do our part to take those refugees who are in need”. “It adds even more momentum to the Clinton campaign that has already distanced itself from the rest of the field”, Kefauver said in an email.
“For weeks, Senator Sanders and his team have been signalling that he intends to have a thoughtful discussion about what it means to be a ‘democratic socialist.’ We are psyched he chose Georgetown as the place to have that conversation”. We nominate Bernie Sanders to be president of the United States.
The night also included a lighter moment, after Sanders brought up his plan to remove marijuana from the federal government’s list of unsafe drugs, a step that would allow states to legalize marijuana without impediments from Washington.
He said that the USA invasion “unravelled the region”.
