Turkish Airlines plane diverted to Canada after bomb threat
A Turkish Airlines plane en route from NY to Istanbul was diverted to Canada because of a bomb threat, police said today. The passengers are disembarking and the plane and luggage will be searched by police dogs trained in explosives, the tweets said.
There were 256 passengers on board.
The RCMP said the threat came in at 10.50 p.m. (local time).
Halifax Stanfield global Airport stated on its Twitter feed early Sun.in that Flight 2 had landed safely & in that cops officers have been at the scene.
Flight 55, from Dulles Airport outside Washington, D.C., and Flight 65, from Los Angeles, made emergency landings in Halifax and in the western US city of Salt Lake City, respectively, on Tuesday.
The RCMP in Nova Scotia said it would not comment on the details of the bomb threat and was looking to identify the person or persons responsible.
No explosives were found aboard the planes, US and Canadian media said.
Security officials have been on high alert since Islamic State militants claimed responsibility for attacks this month in Paris that killed more than 100 people.
