Suarez, Neymar lead Barcelona to 4-0 rout of Real Madrid
This victory will not be soon forgotten by Barcelona fans and Real Madrid will have to pick themselves up and not allow this heavy defeat to hurt them psychologically before their next game.
Even without Lionel Messi not starting in El Clasico as he’s still recovering from injury, Barcelona has sliced through the Madrid defense numerous times with what seems like little-to-no-effort. The fixture we have known in the past ten or so years had predominantly the same set of furiously passionate players, fighting it out more for bragging rights than anything else.
While Barca celebrated the result with their supporters, Real Madrid left the pitch to jeers and whistles and coach Rafael Benitez is now in serious danger of losing his job after just 12 games. Benitez said at a news conference. We were up against a great side; we made mistakes and were made to pay for them.
“Unfortunately, we failed to do things well”.
Real Madrid full-back Marcelo has apologised to the club’s fans following the 4-0 Clasico thrashing at the hands of Barcelona.
Before the kick-off, Real Madrid and Barcelona players observed a minute of silence for the victims killed in the Paris attacks on November 13. But his second goal has another impressive stat associated with it, as the build up to the goal consisted of 24 passes.
Lucas Perez scored his eighth goal of the season and third in as many games, before Jonny Castro doubled the lead with a spectacular own-goal late on, after Nolito had earlier missed a penalty. “It will go down in history as a memorable game for the Blaugranas”.
Isco came on for Rodriguez shortly after and initially gave Real a few much-needed zip in attack, with Cristiano Ronaldo, Gareth Bale and Karim Benzema largely anonymous.
Messi got in on the act when his pass was flicked-on by Neymar and Suarez took his time before chipping over a helpless Navas.
The Uruguayan is also part of another run for the Catalan club as he and the Brazilian Neymar have both scored in 4 consecutive games for Barca in all competitions. But it couldn’t have been more one-sided.
All the pre-match build-up concerned the return of Messi, although his long-awaited return was put on hold with Enrique keeping faith in Suarez and Neymar up front from the start.
After what looked like the best defensive team in Europe, everything fell apart for them as their midfield was non existent during the 90 minutes, while Ivan Rakitic, Iniesta and Sergi Roberto did as they pleased, supplying plenty of opportunities and chances for Suarez and Neymar.
