Sixteen-year-old charged over bullying video | Central
The footage shows a 14-year-old victim being threatened by one girl, who threatens to attack her and throw her bag in the road if she doesn’t apologise on her knees.
The girl’s mobile phone number had also been posted on the internet, while unidentified cars had been “parked outside her mother’s address” in the early hours of the morning. “What else do you want me to do?” “The phone has been got rid of”.
Sandra Murgatroyd, prosecuting, said that on the night two groups of youngsters came across one another.
The victim is then hit in the face with her bag.
A teenager has this afternoon been arrested after the attack, which police have described as “vicious”.
One victim is pushed to the ground and the bully straddles her, screaming: “What are you going to do?”
Police said they have identified two suspects from the video and the second girl will be spoken to on her return from holiday.
“Who else is under investigation in this matter – has anybody else been arrested?”
The teenager, who had drunk a bottle of vodka before the attack on Saturday night, told police she could not remember anything it.
District judge Shamim Qureshi warned that there was a “high probability” that the teenager would be given an eight-month training order and detention.
The teenager was remanded into youth accommodation and will be sentenced on August 3.
Police have asked anyone who has published or shared the video to remove it from their social media accounts.
Inspector John Askew, from Birmingham South Police, said: “The response from members of the public, clearly disgusted by what they’ve seen online, has been overwhelming and we’ve had lots of people getting in touch to provide names of those responsible. This could jeopardise court proceedings”.
