Two People Escape Helicopter Crash in Longford Without Serious Injury
A man in his 60s has been arrested after a helicopter crashed in the Republic of Ireland, damaging a pub.
It was also indicated by gardaí that the helicopter’s propellers may have hit a building on its descent.
It has been reported that some people inside the pub were treated by paramedics, but no one sustained serious injuries.
Teddy and Betty McGoey, owners of the Rustic Inn, revealed their own narrow escape.
Thankfully, the pilot and passenger survived the crash that happened as they were trying to land at the back of the Rustic Inn pub and restaurant in Abbeyshrule.
The impact on the newly built accommodation on the banks of the Royal Canal blasted a small window to pieces and sprayed shards of glass inside.
Two men were on board the helicopter at the time.
The company declined to comment. Gardai said the AAIU were sending investigators to the scene late last night.
The helicopter is registered as g-BXTH on the Isle of Man with the Civil Aviation Authority recording the owner as Mannifest Live.
The helicopter may have been attempting a landing when the rotor hit the side of the pub.
Ciaran Doyle, 14, from Aughnacliffe, Longford, was in Abbeyshrule last night with his father Padraic and recorded the minutes leading up to the crash.
“It started to come in close to the pub, and it started moving towards the back”.
“The helicopter got a bit low beside the Rustic Inn and I went over to take a video”.
He said the passengers were able to exit the aircraft and that it was “leaking fuel” when emergency services arrived.
