No. 19 Navy: Midshipmen roll over Hurricane
The Mids (9-1 overall, 7-0 AAC), who are ranked 16th in the College Football Playoff Rankings, finished with 452 yards on the ground.
Quarterback Keenan Reynolds ran for 81 yards and a touchdown while directing a Navy offense that rolled up 512 yards on the ground and the Midshipmen beat Tulsa 44-21 on Saturday night. He set an NCAA record with 31 rushing touchdowns by a quarterback in 2013 and has the most games in NCAA history of scoring three or more touchdowns in a game with 15.
Navy heads to Tulsa looking to stay undefeated in American Athletic Conference play, but win or lose nothing will be decided regarding a potential berth for the Midshipmen in the league’s championship game. No. 13 Houston lost 20-17 to UConn on Saturday. Navy’s only struggles this year have come against #4 Notre Dame, where precision and technique wasn’t able to keep up with straight up football talent. The Midshipmen had four players rush for at least 50 yards.
“Tough sledding today”, Montgomery said. The Mids continued to pull away as Reynolds’ 1-yard plunge gave the Mids a 21-0 lead with 6:09 remaining.
Hurricane answers with TD: Desperate for offense, TU produced an error-free response that included five consecutive completions by Dane Evans, who found Josh Atkinson for an 8-yard gain, and Zack Langer punched in his second touchdown of the day.
It was no surprise that Navy chewed up the Golden Hurricane’s 115th-ranked run defense. Having the 120th ranked defense in the nation won’t be much of a challenge, just ask SMU.
Evans threw for 279 yards but was sacked four times. Tulsa went three-and-out on its first two possessions and receiver Keyarris Garrett was stripped of the ball after a first-down reception on Tulsa’s third try.
The game with Tulsa represents a clash of cultures when it comes to offense.
