Small Business Saturday nears
The Shop Small Business program was launched by American Express in 2010 in an effort to bring attention to small businesses in our local communities.
Small Business Saturday campaign director, Michelle Ovens said: “Small Business Saturday is exceptional example of collaboration and co-operation with small businesses teaming up in communities around the UK”. While most small business owners reported a positive impact from the shift to telecommuting options, including a better attitude in employees (59 percent) and increased productivity (54 percent), a few respondents expressed concerns that telecommuting makes employees unreliable or inaccessible (34 percent), or harder to trust (33 percent).
Numerous studies have shown the benefits of spending with locally owned businesses instead of their chain-store competitors.
Mahoney said small businesses are critical to the overall economic health of the United States.
Small businesses also provide jobs and generate tax revenue for the community.
It’s not all about “door busters”, as local businesses band together for Small Business Saturday. She said she made as much money on that single day as she had made in previous month. But they add up when you start counting small businesses.
“We work really hard and it can be really stressful”, Dedin said. By shopping on Main Street, not mainstream, you are giving thanks and enhancing the community in which you live.
Let’s give our towns and cities a boost by shopping on Small Business Saturday, and during the rest of the holiday season. Small business owners are creative, diverse, determined and incredibly important to the economy, our local community and America’s global competitiveness.
Small Business Saturday first took place on November 27, 2010. In 2014 Small Business Saturday had its biggest day yet, when an estimated $14.3 billion was spent at independent businesses.
