U.S. must push Arab leaders to confront IS: Clinton
“I don’t think we’re at war with Islam”, Clinton said.
What do you think of Hillary Clinton’s problem with calling the movement “radical Islamic terrorism”- and her statement that Muslims “have nothing whatsoever to do with terrorism?”
She also displayed an astounding lack of self-awareness, lamenting that despite the success in Iraq (without crediting George W. Bush’s surge) the Iraqis were later “betrayed and forgotten”. “Three, harden our defenses and those of our allies against external and homegrown threats”, she said.
Republicans have sought to link Clinton to the unpopular foreign policy of Obama, casting her as continuing his strategy in the region.
In the aftermath of the attacks in Paris, which French authorities say were planned by Islamic State militants, the question of how to combat the group has become central to the presidential campaign.
Hillary Clinton spoke about her plan to defeat radical jihadists at a foriegn relations council on Thursday.
Sen. Dianne Feinstein, the top Democrat on the Senate Intelligence Committee, criticized the president for sending an insufficient number of special operations forces to train and assist Syrian partners against ISIS. But Democrats, and Ms Clinton, could also end up underestimating it.
Jeb Bush, the onetime Republican front-runner, laid out his policy Wednesday in a speech in SC that resembled Clinton’s on several key points – including the call for an expanded US presence on the ground in Syria – although with fewer specifics.
At no point during her speech did Clinton mention her Democratic opponents. She pushed for the United States to join a coalition to oust Libya’s strongman Moammar Gadhafi.
Clinton’s comments come after the Obama administration announced that it was ending the $500 million program training and equipping moderate Syrian rebels in October, after it was ultimately deemed a failure.
She underscored that position again Thursday.
Still, Clinton’s hiring of Burrell adds to the view that she isn’t taking South Carolina’s black vote for granted.
Clinton talked about ways the U.S. could be more aggressive with ISIS online in a speech Thursday.
“The scientific community is telling us that if we do not address the global crisis of climate change, transform our energy system away from fossil fuel to sustainable energy, the planet that we’re going to be leaving our kids and our grandchildren may well not be habitable”, Sanders said.
“ISIS is demonstrating new ambition, reach, and capabilities”.
But Clinton and her advisers argue that Glass-Steagall would not have prevented the failure of large financial institutions, such as investment bank Lehman Brothers and insurer AIG, during the Great Recession. These are options that Obama has not taken.
“Secretary Clinton is right: Governor O’Malley does support paid family leave, and he supports paying for it”, said O’Malley deputy campaign manager Lis Smith.
Offering a detailed assessment of the conflict in Syria, the Democratic presidential front-runner said America must lead the effort to fight against IS but called on Arab nations to supply much of the military force on the ground. In the case of Iraq and Syria, we will not be able to mobilize another such uprising without a bigger commitment on our part.
The issue of Syrian refugees has fueled fierce debate on both sides of the presidential race since the terrorist attacks in Paris last Friday.
“Our enemy are these criminal killers who misuse a religion in order to recruit people and give them the training to go out and kill more people”, she said.
“They are not religious leaders; they are terrorists”, Obama said at a White House event on countering violent extremism.
Twice she singled out Turkey.
