He however expressed his happiness over the peaceful nature of the poll so far, though he admitted that he is yet to get reports from other polling units.
A combined team of security personnel surrounded the state’s headquarters of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), while a few of them, including police officers and those of the Nigerian Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) conducted a thorough stop and search screening at the entrance to the commission’s office.
On the other hand, at the Ogbunicha polling unit in Alooma in Ofu Local Government Area where the APC governorship candidate, Audu Abubakar, is expected to vote, he did his accreditation at 12.19 pm without any hitch.
She added, “the successive regimes of the Peoples Democratic Party, have failed woefully in spite of the huge resources at their disposal”.
It was gathered that voting has been completed in most polling centres in the state, hence counting of the votes has commenced.
From Ajetachi, a town in Dekina Local Government Area, comes a report that hoodlums are wreaking havoc and attacking voters. “This is what I have been telling them”, said Chief Salifu.
“There was one particular area in Dekina where our officials were not proficient in the use of card reader and we are investigating what happened”.
Dr Salau said, however, that the exercise was orderly except few polling units where he had information that card readers were not functioning, and where there was late arrival of materials.
“I think that people have seen the need to do the right thing, ” he said.
