‘That’s for Paris’: Russian Federation to drop bomb with message on ISIS target
A monitoring group, the Syrian Observatory for Human Rights, said Syrian and Russian warplanes conducted 50 bombing raids in Deir al-Zour province – Russia’s most intense assault there to date.
The Russian Defence Minister, Sergey Shoigu, said that in four days of heavy bombings against ISIS, more than 100 cruise missiles were launched and more than 800 terrorist targets were destroyed in Syria.
Speaking at a news conference in Malaysia on November 22, Obama called on Russian President Vladimir Putin to align himself with the U.S.-led coalition, noting that IS was accused of bringing down a Russian passenger jet last month, killing 224 people.
He described the raids, which targeted several large cities and smaller towns in the province and three oil fields, as “the worst bombardment of the region since the start of the uprising in 2011”. The U.S.-led coalition does not coordinate with Damascus however.
Russian broadcasts have released a video in which a man is seen writing “For our People!” and “For Paris!” in black pen on aerial bombs mere minutes before a warplane is set to launch from the country’s airbase in Syria.
Unverified images circulated on the Internet of Syria-bound USA missiles bearing the handwritten inscription “From Paris with love”. The general public message of support for the French capital, where an Islamic State-coordinated attack killed a minimum of 129 people last Friday., comes as Moscow makes an attempt to seek out frequent ground with the Western powers within the fight against the extremist group.
Flights operating out of Beirut airport will continue unaffected despite a notice of planned Russian naval drills in the Mediterranean, airport official Ibrahim Abu Alioun said on Friday. He said this deprived IS of US$1.5 million in daily income from oil sales.
