Thunder Trades Perry Jones To Celtics
The Oklahoman’s Darnelly Mayberry reports that the Thunder will receive a protected second-round pick and a trade exception of close to $2.1 million in the deal.
Despite Jones’ youth, the Thunder are likely looking to save money where possible after Yahoo Sports’ Adrian Wojnarowski reported they were matching the $70 million offer sheet the Portland Trail Blazers gave to Enes Kanter.
“The Celtics are an up-and-coming team that doesn’t really have a superstar per se”. That does not include a deal for second-round pick Jordan Mickey, who is expected to be signed soon, so don’t think President of Basketball Operations Danny Ainge is done for the summer. Though he hasn’t seen a lot of minutes with the Oklahoma City Thunder, Jones is a former first-round pick and is still just 23 years old.
The Celtics roster still appears ripe for tinkering.
The Boston Celtics’ busy offseason continued Tuesday afternoon. The 6-foot-11, 235-pound wing has an intriguing set of physical tools, but slipped to No. 28 in the 2012 draft – six slots after Boston picked up Fab Melo – and has not established himself as a reliable National Basteball Association contributor. While his career averages are pretty low, it goes back to the limited minutes and a lack of getting real playing time behind players like Kevin Durant and Serge Ibaka. They get a free second-round pick out of it and the outside chance that Jones might show something in a new environment. Fans should watch a few highlights of Perry Jones III in OKC, because he might be a diamond in the rough.
