Most of the big retailers are keeping their big Cyber Monday deals under wraps for now, but keep an eye out for big announcements and TV adverts over the next week.
We see signs, however, that the media-driven Gray Thursday/Black Friday shopping event is as dated as last year’s fruitcake.
Black Friday now spans the entire week, says Shawn DuBravac, the chief economist for the Consumer Technology Association. Reading the print ads is more enjoyable as it is more haptic and visually more appealing. It is offering a few pre-Black Friday deals to entice shoppers to spend earlier. While the lure of doorbuster savings is a big part of the Black Friday appeal, retailers don’t always deliver.
Black Friday shoppers at Belk will find toys at a 60.92% average discount, and those at Macy’s will find appliances at a 60.48% average discount.
This year, even more people will likely hit the stores: 47 percent of Americans polled told us they plan to go shopping on Black Friday.

Recreational Equipment Incorporated, otherwise famously known as REI, has chose to close its doors on both Thanksgiving and Black Friday and is encouraging other stores to do the same.
