Jos Buttler Ton Guides England to ODI Series Win vs Pakistan
Pakistan after putting a hard effort to chase a giant target of 356, fell short of 84 runs in final One Day worldwide (ODI) against England at Dubai global Cricket Stadium, Dubai.
Buttler reached three figures in 46 balls, beating the 61-ball hundred he made against Sri Lanka in May 2014.
Bairstow’s position, after six successive Tests in which he was a specialist batsman until replacing Buttler behind the stumps, could conceivably be uncertain again. For England now, thoughts turn to the Twenty20 series, before a test series in South Africa. “Everyone has enjoyed that win”.
With the World T20 getting underway in March, Buttler thinks England are showing they can be contenders to win the tournament in India for a second time. It’s the best I’ve ever played in an England shirt.
“If I knew the answer I’d be a lot more consistent”.
“To get 350-plus on that wicket really set the game up for us”, Morgan said. “It’s given me a lot to get the monkey off my back and actually do something”. This, perhaps, is why he has not yet been able to transfer his one-day form into the five-day arena.
The run rate started to accelerate when Joe Root came to the crease, as he and Roy put on 140 for the second wicket.
“That was all Morgs” decision”, Buttler said. You still train the same whether you get runs or you don’t.
He did it to mighty effect, setting his innings up with a 30-ball half-century before flailing a further 66 from his next 22 deliveries, as England added 129 in the final ten overs of their innings.
Even so, he too rated this one the best as well as the fastest.
“A lot is pre-meditated, but you try to have an option if it’s not in the area you think it’s going to be – so you’re not over-committed”, Buttler explained of his innings. “It’s so satisfying after what has been a tough time”.
It was the joint seventh fastest hundred in one-day cricket history and overshadowed a maiden ODI century by opener Jason Roy, who scored 102. To see guys like him and all the others who do that sort of thing, you want to emulate that.
Morgan told BBC Sport of his chat with Buttler: “I said before he went out that he’s the only one of us who can score a 60-ball hundred, and he’s done it in 46”.
Roy and fellow opener Alex Hales had laid the platform for England as they took the score to 54 in the 12th over when lanky paceman Mohammad Irfan had Hales caught in the deep off a miscued hook shot.
“I’m sure this young group of players will have their bad days; we saw that in the first game of the series”. This was a big step for England, perhaps their most significant ODI series win overseas since sweeping the same opposition 4-0 in 2012.
