Major delays as motorway is closed after huge lorry fire melts tarmac
Among the busiest motorways will be the M6 but disaster struck in the early hours of this morning when a lorry caught fire.
Many schools have now broken up for the summer holidays, which has led to millions of Brits looking to hit the road.
Stuck on the M6 in very bad traffic jam- there’s an ice cream van behind us selling ice creams!
Staffordshire Police are now urging motorists to divert to the M1 as thousands hit the road for the weekend.
Officers tweeted a picture of the stricken truck with flames spread across the carriageway, pointing out that the fire had melted the road surface.
The closure comes as many families take to the road on the first day of the summer holiday getaway.
The fire happened shortly before a nine-year-old boy and two other children were injured in a minibus crash on the M6.
West Midlands Ambulance Service was called to the incident near junction 14 southbound of the M6, at just after 2.30am.
“Five patients were taken to the Royal Stoke University Hospital by ambulance and they included a 16 year old female with neck and shoulder pain who was trapped in the vehicle”.
