Persecuted Hindus have right to come to India: Assam governor
Guwahati: Assam Governor Padmanabha Acharya stoked controversy on Saturday when he said that Hindustan is for Hindus and Hindu migrants from different countries can stay here.
About the Muslims living in these countries, Acharya said, “The Muslims can go anywhere. But find out how to accommodate them is an enormous query and we should always take into consideration that”, he stated. “If that was so, I ask myself that what’s the distinction between the “two nation principle” that led to the partition of this nation and in India’s standing to a tall proud democracy in follow to Pakistan the place they follow this very concept”, he added. He said that he had no problem with Hindu migrants settling in the state and the state itself would have no problems with it.
“I didn’t mean Hindustan is for Hindus only”.
Acharya has denied that he has never said Hindustan is for Hindus, saying he had only said that those Hindus who are persecuted for religious reason in Bangladesh have the right to come to India and it is our duty to receive them. Singhvi said India is for Indians but not for a specific community.
The Governor assured the public that his government is bent upon finishing the remaining work in time and that it would give the work top most priority.
Acharya said he had said persecuted Hindus in Bangladesh or in any part of the world have the right to come to India and live.
“Proper NRC is the beginning of vibrant and strong Assam and north eastern region”, Acharya said.
